Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about our business and provide the answers here. If you need additional information send email to info@howelltraps.com.

1.

DO YOU SELL GUNS?

No, we used to years ago, but the red tape and legalities involved outweight the small amount of money to be made by a long shot.  That's one of the biggest reasons we've changed our website name to Howell Traps instead of Howell Shooting Supplies. Now all of our business revolves around trap machines and all of their accessories and parts.  We also sell targets by the case, pallet or truckload.

2.

DO YOU SELL AMMO?

We only sell ammo and reloading materials to our local customers.  Basically for the same reasons as above.  However, we had so many local customers that counted on us to have the supplies they needed for their reloading that we have continued to have those products available at our shop.  We can also offer any of MEC's selection of reloaders or parts for MEC reloader machines.

3.

DO YOU OFFER ANY SORT OF CREDIT OR LEASE OPTIONS?

We don't have any sort of lease or credit option available on our own, however, PayPal is our merchant and they allow us to offer PayPal Credit through them.  Our understanding is that you can get up to $3,000 of credit through PayPal Credit and it would be interest free for up to 6 months.  You would have to have a PayPal account, which is free, and then apply for PayPal Credit with PayPal.  Once you know you have an available credit line just let us know that's how you want to pay and we can send you an invoice via PayPal that will allow you to pay with your credit line.  Check out how PayPal Credit works.

4.

DO YOU HAVE ANY USED TRAP MACHINES FOR SALE?

We always have a selection of used machines for sale.  We separate them into three different categories:

Used, As Is - These machines are being sold "As Is" and do not come with a warranty.  That doesn't mean the machine might not work.  Our technicians make sure every machine we sell is working perfectly before it is sold, unless we have otherwise stated an issue the machine has that can't/won't be fixed.  You will know exactly what you're getting when you purchase one of these machines.

Used - These machines are a step above the "Used, As Is" machines and will come with a 30 Day Parts/Labor Warranty.  If you have any problems within the first 30 days we will get the machine fixed and working perfectly for you at our cost, even if that means having it shipped back to our shop.  If it's as simple as sending you a part that was damaged in shipping, we will gladly do that as well.  Our Used machines have had all of their non-metal parts replaced and been completely checked out by our technicians.

Reconditioned - These machines have been thoroughly broken down and rebuilt by our technicians.  All non-metal parts are replaced.  All heavily worn parts are replaced.  All damaged parts are replaced.  These machines come the same 30 Day Parts/Labor Warranty as the Used machines as well as a 6 Month Mechanical Parts Warranty.  If anything goes wrong after those first 30 days and before 6 months, we will be glad to warranty any parts, but any labor would be additional.  We will, however, be glad to help walk you through replacing a part over the phone.

Demo Models - These are the machines that are on our current rental fleets.  Usually they've only been used at a few big shoots and are stored indoors at our warehouse year round.  They are in "Like New" condition and even come with whatever is left of the manufacturers warranty.

You can view all of our used machines on our Clearance Page.

We also list used machines that some of our customers are selling on our Consignments Page.  Please contact the person listed as selling these machines as we have no further information about them other than what you find on our website.

5.

WILL YOU TAKE MY OLD MACHINES ON TRADE IN?

We definitely take machines in on trade when customers are buying new machines.  It totally depends on the condition/age/value of the machines and what kind of value you are looking to get for them.  We're a business and we have to be able to buy them for a price that's low enough that we can put time and money into them and then sell them for a good enough price to get rid of them but make some money still.  We completely break down a trade in machine and go through every part of it.  Then after all of that time and money is put into getting it ready to sell, we have to sit on it until it actually sells.  That means we have to offer you less than the true value of the machine in order for it to be worth it to us to buy it.

If you would rather try to get full value out of them, we totally understand that and we'd be glad to list them for you on our Consignments Page.  We offer that service to our customers completely free of charge.

6.

DO YOU HAVE A YEARLY MAINTENANCE PLAN OR SCHEDULE?

We will be glad to setup a recurring schedule to service your machines every year, but there's no set payment plan for this. Each time we make a service call, the work/parts necessary to make sure your machines are working properly will be billed separately depending on what is required each time.  The benefit of this, is that you can be sure we will never charge you for things you don't need or for a service call that wasn't necessary in the first place.

7.

WHAT TYPE OF MACHINES DO YOU SERVICE?

We service just about any brand of trap machine.  You can be sure if we sell it, we DEFINITELY service it.  If for some reason we don't service the brand/type of machine you need serviced, we will be glad to point you in the right direction or help you understand why it may be better to buy a new machine than have the one in question repaired.  If we don't work on them, there's usually a pretty good reason.

We definitely work on these brands:  Laporte, Lincoln, Beomat, Atlas, Pat Trap, MEC, Champion EasyBird, Promatic, GMV*, Super Star*, Hunter's Point*, Champion/Outers*, Auto Sporter*

*Brands no longer in production, but we still service them

8.

CHAMPION/OUTERS vs CHAMPION EASYBIRD?

Outers, which eventually became Champion, used to make great American made trap machines.  However, around 2004-2005 they discontinued almost all of their American made traps except for the 180 and SST models, which they continued making until around 2010, and started the Chinese made EasyBird line.

When they discontinued all of those American made traps and stopped supporting them, we at Howell Traps decided there were way too many of those machines out there to not be able to get parts for them.  So we bought the rights to manufacture all of the parts for those old Champion/Outers machines.  We are the official parts manufacturer for all of those traps.  Champion still manufactures the Chinese made parts for the EasyBird machines.

We offer parts for both the Champion/Outers machines and the Champion EasyBird line, however we only sell the Champion EasyBird trap machines by special request due to long, unknown lead times.  If you have your heart, or budget, set on an EasyBird machine and don't mind waiting however long it takes to get it, let us know and we will be glad to accommodate.

9.

WHAT IS INCLUDED WITH A MACHINE AT BASE PRICE?

Different brands and models include different things with their machines.  Some brands include a manual push button release pull cord, some don't. Some models come standard with a manual tilt base, some don't. Some even come with carts, but most don't. As you browse the different machines on our site, pay attention to the details of what is included with the models you're considering.

And at the end of the day, you can always request a quote from us and tell us exactly what you are wanting to get and the different models you're looking at and we'll send you quotes for exactly what you want for each model so you can compare apples to apples. For instance, if you were looking at the difference between a Laporte TAH 85 PRO and an Atlas Wobble AT-50 you may not realize that the price for the TAH 85 PRO includes the cart and the price for the Atlas doesn't include it. However, if you tell us you're trying to decide between those two machines and you want to see quotes for them that include carts and wireless voice release, you'll be able to see the final price of both setups.
