Austin Shepherd has established a diverse career in the automotive industry during the past 40 years. Starting at the age of 15, he became involved in the sport of drag racing that lasted for more than two decades. After college he was self-employed in the automotive restoration and customizing field. He has taught automotive service technology for the past 25 years. His involvement over the past ten years in shotgun sports has provided him the opportunity to apply his mechanical and electrical expertise in repairing skeet, trap and sporting clay machines.
During the past 12 years Shep has coached a successful SCTP shotgun team. The team record stands at 35 state and 15 national championships. This accomplishment reflects a high level of communication skills and the ability to focus under pressure.
He is noted for his attention to detail. Other skills include mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, electrical/electronic diagnostics, and ability to educate clients on machine operations/.maintenance. Shep has an innate ability to repair equipment and machinery that appears unsalvageable. He is an NSSA level three instructor and National Director for the state of Georgia.
In 2013 he was inducted in the GSSA Hall of Fame under the Fred Missildine award. This reflects his shooting accomplishments and the unselfish promotion of the sport of skeet. Shep was the 2009 GSSA State Doubles champion. The same year he was the NSSA 12 gauge East A-Class World Champion. In 2012 he was the NSSA 20 gauge A-Class World Champion.
Shep’s relationship with Howell Shooting Supply began in 2005 when he and Harrell met at the Georgia State Skeet shoot. His relationship with HSS became more involved as he assisted in the development of Wagon Wheel Sporting Club near Columbus, Georgia. In mid-2015 he began work with HSS as a trap machine technician.
He enjoys upland bird hunting, salt water fishing and clay target shooting.
Austin is based out of Pine Mountain, GA and will be working a lot of our service calls up and down the East Coast.
